DR. CAROLYN HUNTER, CHIROPRACTIC PHYSICIAN
Dr. Carolyn Hunter completed her undergraduate studies at the University of Alberta in Canada in 1986. Following graduation she continued her studies in the field of Psychoneuroimmunology and became fascinated with the powerful relationship between our thoughts and attitudes and our health. This proved to be a natural segue into the study of Chiropractic.
In 1996 she began her graduate studies at Life University in Atlanta, Ga graduating magna cum laude as a Doctor of Chiropractic in 2000. Upon graduation, Dr. Hunter first practiced in Europe where she had the opportunity to practice in both hospital based and private practice settings. She began extensive training in Chiropractic Neurology in London with the Carrick Institute and is currently working toward Board Certification in this Specialty.
In addition to pursuing advanced training in neurology she has participated in post graduate training in a broad spectrum of clinical techniques including Chiropractic Biophysics, Sacral Occipital Technique, Activator Methods, and Pediatrics. She has had the privilege of working with a wide spectrum of patients in her practice all with unique and varied needs and goals. Dr. Hunter has treated world class professional athletes, children with disabilities and autism, weekend warriors, golfers, moms, dads and grandmas and even moms to be.
Dr. Hunter relocated to South Carolina with her family in 2005 and has been practicing in the Charleston area ever since. Her focus has always been geared toward optimizing human performance and wellness by helping her patients achieve their personal best.
She is nationally certified in Non –Surgical spinal decompression, her ability to treat disc injuries makes her the ideal choice as Back Pain is the # 1 Cause for disability and worker compensation claims in America. Dr. Hunter was the first female doctor chosen to serve on the International Advisory Board on Spinal Decompression, whose honorary chairman is Neurosurgeon Dr. Norman Shealy, who was educated at Duke Medical School and taught at Harvard Medical School. Recently Spinal Decompression has been shown in in the McClure study to be 91% effective, which involved over 500 pre-surgical candidates, who were able to avoid surgery. Providing spinal decompression will often eliminate the need for surgery with a median cost of $42,000, not counting time lost from work, as well as future disability.
Dr. Hunter maintains a special interest in helping people with chronic conditions such as fibromyalgia, headaches and various neuralgias as well as low back pain, and neck pain and those injured in auto or workplace through natural, painless and non-invasive techniques.
DR. GREG ANDERSON CHIROPRACTIC PHYSICIAN
Dr. Anderson completed his undergraduate degree at the University of South Carolina with a Bachelor of Science in Biology. He furthered his education by attending Life Chiropractic University and received his Doctorate of Chiropratic in 1996. After graduation, he and his wife settled in Summerville, SC which allowed him to remain close to his family and hometown of Bamberg, SC. They fell in love with the Low Country and the Charleston community. Dr. Anderson has been very involved in the Summerville and Dorchester County community coaching his three children through various athletic programs with the local schools and with community service groups such as the Sertoma League and Kiwanis Club and also with his local church group. Dr. Anderson enjoys being able to help people with conditions such as lower back and neck pain and well as sciatica, headaches and chronic pain syndromes. He has recently been studying extensively the subject of the Ketogenic Diet and has affectionately become know as Dr. Keto as he further specialized his knowledge of weight loss solutions. He joined the team at Health Edge Medical and Wellness because he shares the vision of a practice that specialized in non-surgical and non-invasive solutions for common preventable health conditions. ROLAND, SAAVEDRA, MD
Roland, Saavedra, MD is a board certified Family Physician. He is a graduate of The Chicago Medical School and the University of Massachusetts where he completed his post-graduate studies. He has a special interest in obesity, diabetes , chronic disease, and preventative medicine. His goal is to educate and engage his patients in therapies aimed at preventing, reversing, or ameliorating the complications of obesity. Dr. Saavedra believes that by forming a solid professional partnership with the patient the clinician can then optimize strategies to fight obesity.
TESSA PRIVETT, RN, MSN, FNP-BC
Tessa Privett FNP is the nurse practitioner with Health Edge. She graduated with honors from the Family Nurse Practitioner Program at Mississippi University for Women in 1998. She has previous experience working in the emergency room, and most recently worked with a neurosurgeon as his surgical assistant and outpatient nurse practitioner. Tessa learned through experience that surgery should be performed only as a last resort, as complications and failed back surgery occur far too often. She believes in relieving neck and back pain with chiropractic treatment and the natural therapeutic modalities offered at Health Edge.
MICHELLE YOUNG, PHYSICAL THERAPIST
Michelle was born and raised in Charleston, South Carolina. She attended Trident Technical College for her undergraduate studies, receiving an Associates Degree in Science and an Associates Degree in Arts. Michelle underwent her graduate studies at the Medical University of South Carolina and received a Masters Degree in Rehabilitative Sciences, specializing in Physical Therapy in 2006. Having an interest in the hands-on aspects of the orthopaedic rehab world, Michelle sought out and attained certification in Manual Therapy via The Manual Therapy Institute in 2011.
Michelle spent her career working with the adult population in the orthopaedic setting, treating the major areas of the skeletal, musculoskeletal system and nervous system. This was comprised of treatment for acute, chronic and recurring injuries/dysfunction(s) for those who were presently experiencing symptoms, wished to reduce frequency of or prevent episodes, as well as those who underwent a surgical intervention.
